Job Description

The program coordinator for the Translational Plant Sciences Center (TPSC) will provide day-to-day support to meet the diverse programmatic, communications, and event management needs of the TPSC, a center within the Fralin Life Sciences Institute (FLSI). The TPSC coordinator will work closely with the Center's director, faculty, students, and FLSI administrative units to operate all day-to-day aspects of the Center. The TPSC coordinator is expected to have frequent interactions with stakeholders, faculty, students, staff, administrators, event service providers, and visiting scholars. Primary responsibilities of the TPSC coordinator include administrative management of the Center and overall coordination of daily activities in support of the Center's success.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in business management, communications, science, marketing, science, or equivalent training and experience
* Experience with scientific communication or related communications focus
* Experience providing administrative support in an academic or professional office environment
* Excellent time management and organizational skills
* Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
* Ability to interact with and foster positive interactions between diverse external and internal stakeholders
* Experience in event planning
* Proficiency using software for marketing and communications, multimedia and video,
and content management systems such as Ensemble for website design and maintenance
* Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; social media (Twitter, Facebook, Flickr)
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Experience with purchasing, receiving, and expenditure tracking

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with administrative and/or fiscal tools, such as Hokie Mart
