Job Description

The Virginia Tech National Security Institute is seeking applicants for an Fiscal Technician to provide operations support to the quickly growing Institute. The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing, payroll, fund reconciliation, assisting with budget allocations and forecasting and monitoring of Center-related finance and operational activities. Day-to-day activities include monthly fund reconciling, preparing and executing travel and expense reimbursement requests, executing purchases by entering and receiving in Hokiemart, monitoring and updating faculty and student labor distributions among research projects, executing human resources transactions such as student assistantship contracts and Banner entry, wage payroll setup and timesheet entry, updating and maintaining program information in VTNSI databases and providing overall fiscal support to the leadership team. Assist in coordinated efforts for facilities resilience and operation. Receive packages and distribute mail to appropriate individuals.

The successful candidate must possess ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, work with minimal supervision and demonstrate discretion in working with confidential information. Additional job success factors include but are not limited to strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Required Qualifications

-Good computer skills involving data entry and database management systems.
-Good attention to detail
-Significant experience and proficiency with general office software such as spreadsheets and word processing
-Experience with filing systems.
-Previous bookkeeping experience in a professional setting

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience with large enterprise systems, such as finance, purchasing, travel, and payroll
-Bachelor's degree or lesser degree in business, accounting or related discipline or equivalent education and experience.
-Experience providing financial support in an academic/research environment.
