This position has primary responsibility for management of the administrative office and critical business practices at Virginia Tech's Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center (TAREC). The TAREC is located in Suffolk, Virginia (village of Holland) and is one of the largest off-campus units within the university's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, with eight resident faculty members, two research faculty members, 21 full-time staff members, 11 graduate students, and numerous part-time wage and student employees, and an annual budget of over $2 million. In this role, the Administrative and Office Service Specialist manages all financial matters involving university and grant funding. Additionally, this position is responsible for organization and maintenance of all personnel/human resources (HR) activities, from onboarding to termination. This position assists all employees with financial policy and personnel matters. Administratively, the position reports to the TAREC Director with input from the faculty for annual evaluation. Success in this position will be heavily dependent on the candidate being team-oriented, self-motivated, highly organized, and service-focused. Resources and trainings will be provided to facilitate a smooth transition to Virginia Tech's fiscal and HR systems.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications:
- A positive attitude and a team- and service-oriented mindset.
- Associate's degree in administrative or business management, accounting, or related field; or an equal combination of education and work-related experience.
- Computing experience with emphasis on the MS suite of applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow organizational procedures.
- Ability to maintain accurate records in an organized manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality as required in matters related to personnel.
- Ability to multitask effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications

- University degree (BA/BS) in agricultural economics and/or business administration, business management, or accounting.
- Demonstrated skills (coursework and/or experience) in the area of financial data management, administrative office management and/or accounting.
