Job Description

Reporting to Director of Global Study Abroad, the Advisor and Mentor Coordinator, International Programs serves as a full-time staff member for International Programs in UG Programs in PCOB. The major areas of responsibility include advising/coaching for undergraduate international student business majors in joint programs, specialty programs, and regular business programs; performing duties related to tracking joint program students' progress; coordination of advising and registration of joint program students; coordinating the international student mentoring program and related events; assist with international summer camps, and other tasks relevant to international students. Additional job duties may include assisting colleagues as needed.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Provide holistic, student-focused advising and coaching services to approximately 500 international undergraduate students located on campus and in other countries through individual in-person and virtual appointments, emails, phone calls, etc.
-Hands on approach to connecting with students before arriving at VT, as well as throughout the year
-Deliver accurate information and advice to students about their specified joint program curriculum, extracurricular activities, and campus resources.
-Meet regularly and track progress of coursework and English language
-Interpret and explain department, college, and university academic policies and procedures, especially as it relates to the joint program requirements and international student needs
-Initiate academic intervention for students in academic difficulty
-Provide individualized support and assess student needs to make appropriate referrals to campus resources
-Registration assistance
-Work collegially with academic advising team in UG programs
-Provide services outside of normal work hours to meet virtually with students outside of the US
-Coordinate the global mentor program and activities, including oversight of mentors; working with mentees; and creating programming for all Pamplin international students
-Promotion of the mentoring program
-Assist with coordination and running of the international summer camp
-Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

-Previous work with international mentoring program in higher education setting
-Previous experience working with joint international degree programs
-Working knowledge of advising, programs, resources and policies
-Previous professional student-focused experience in a higher education setting (e.g. mentoring, advising, student affairs, etc.)
-Previous experience working with diverse student populations
- Previous experience working with international students
-Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
-Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
-Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion
-Ability to work with flexible hours to meet with students across time zones
-English fluency
-Ability to use multiple apps and platforms to converse with students located in other countries
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in business, education, or other related field, may be coupled with training and/or related work experience
- Previous experience working with international specialty programs (ex. Fulbright)
-Previous professional advising experience in a business discipline
-Experience using student information systems such as Banner and Navigate
-Knowledge of university academic policies and procedures
-Member of NAFSA or similar professional organization
