The Public Safety Division has a critical role in supporting the well-being of our community. They are essential in planning for and responding to emergency events, but also in creating a culture of preparedness where employees and students are safe in their work and living environments.

The Human Resources Coordinator provides support for all aspects of the human resources function and has primary responsibility for all HR transactions related to both the Auxiliary & Business Services (ABS) and the Public Safety (PS) Divisions. Reporting to, and in close coordination with, the ABS Sr. HR Manager, the HR Coordinator is responsible for initiating and processing all HR transactions, serves as the primary administrator for recruitments in the assigned divisions, coordinates all onboarding procedures, maintains all personnel files, and support HR project work. The incumbent also provides information about Human Resource policy and procedures and performs other duties as needed to drive the vision, mission, and values of the Human Resources function.

In addition, the HR Coordinator takes initiative to support the best interests of the department and a healthy work environment, and strives to fulfill the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct, Virginia Tech's Principles of Community, and support the university's motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Required Qualifications

Experience
* Providing Human Resources support across multiple types of tasks.
* Providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
* Working with and maintaining confidential and sensitive information.

Skills & Abilities
* Excellent communication skills to include a patient and friendly demeanor.
* Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and web applications.
* Excellent time management and organizational skills with a self-motivated work ethic.
* Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a highly collaborative and supportive team.
* Strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in human resources or related area of study.
* Related HR certifications.
* Work experience in a higher education environment.
* Experience using an HR Information System (e.g. Banner, Work Day, etc.).
* Experience analyzing data and generating reports in MS Excel.
