Job Description

Reporting to the division Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Coordinator supports all human resource activities within the division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities. Responsibilities include providing operational HR support for human resources programs and services regarding faculty, staff, and wage appointments and delivering effective delivering effective talent management for administrative professional faculty, staff, and wage employees. Additional responsibilities include coordination of talent acquisition, coordination of new hire onboarding, payroll, leave entry/reconciliation, wage reconciliation, compensation coordination, and human resources administration. Provides support on interpretation of personnel and other policies and procedures. Provides guidance to internal clients on issues of compliance with state and federal laws, regulations and standards, and university policies and procedures regarding human resources. Conducts audits and reviews to monitor, report, and resolve any potential compliance issues. Maintains records and compiles statistical reports. Analyzes complex information to define and solve problems.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or other business-related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
* Working experience that demonstrates an understanding of human resources management principles and practices to include staffing, recruitment, screening, and employment, practice and policy interpretation.
* Experience using online applicant tracking systems and/or Human Resource information system.
* Ability to interpret and apply policies, exercise judgement, apply problem solving strategies to produce accurate outcomes and provide exceptional customer service.
* Experience working in a fast-paced environment in a professional setting and working with confidential information.
* Knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, I9 administration, and hiring best practices.
* Experience researching complex human resources problems and writing well-reasoned and insightful reports and recommendations.
* Strong organizational and time management skills demonstrating the ability to work independently to organize and prioritize a variety of competing demands while meeting established deadlines.
* Experience independently developing, implementing, and maintaining accurate, auditable, and secure records.
* Strong interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate respectfully and professionally; interact comfortably with a diverse, multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications

* Demonstrated success in developing and writing position descriptions, job advertisements and recruitment plans.
* Experience with large relational databases (e.g. Banner).
* Knowledge of university and/or state hiring practices.
* Working knowledge of Virginia Tech or state Human Resources policies and procedures.
