We're currently searching for a Staff Counselor - Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA+) Focus to join The Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center (CCC) team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. As we continue to grow and develop a diverse and vibrant group of professionals to serve our student body of 36,000 and in the spirit of Ut Prosim (that I may serve) and InclusiveVT, the Center is committed to a model of diversity, inclusion, and equity in all aspects of its services. The multidisciplinary staff of counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and practicum students to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care. In 2022, Virginia Tech launched the Virginia Tech Advantage for Virginia students which seeks to provide a Virginia Tech experience financially within reach for everyone regardless of income. Part of this initiative will include recommendations and strategies to make Virginia Tech more affordable and accessible for underserved students, addressing financial feasibility and student success. Cook Counseling Center supports the academic mission of the university and has focused upon growing the multicultural competence and ethnic and racial diversity of the counseling staff. The goal for this position is to further our work with APIDA+ communities and marginalized students as we better understand the lived experiences of these students on this campus. We are particularly interested in hiring an individual with knowledge and experience working with APIDA+ students. The ideal candidate will provide brief, culturally competent counseling for individuals, groups, and couples with diverse clinical concerns. The individual will also work with partners across the university to develop and provide culturally informed outreach and prevention services as well as partner with others on staff to provide training for other staff members. This position will conduct crisis interventions as needed during the day and when on after hours call.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ROLE
1) You'll be joining the Cook Counseling Center team; a department committed to a spirit of excellence in providing timely and relevant university mental health services.
2) You'll be reporting to the Director, in a Regular twelve-month, 100% administrative professional appointment.
3) You'll be responsible for providing brief, multiculturally competent counseling for individuals, groups, and couples with diverse clinical concerns. The individual will also work with partners across the university to develop and provide culturally informed outreach and prevention services as well as partner with others on staff to provide training for other staff members.
4) You'll have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.
5) You'll be offered a base compensation package between $65,000-$75,000, along with a which includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications

* Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or family therapy with two years of experience OR PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology with APA approved internship
* Experience in providing focused therapeutic interventions
* Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions


Preferred Qualifications

* Experience and interest in working with APIDA+ (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) students
* Bilingual
* Experience or interest in working students from under-represented populations
* Strong commitment to social justice and issues of diversity
* Licensed or eligible for licensure within 2 years
