IMEG is growing, and we'd love to have you join our team! We are currently seeking a Crew Chief in our Richmond, VA office. As a Crew Chief you will be responsible for the supervision and participation in daily operations of all field activities including boundary, topographic and as built surveys, and construction layout. The Crew Chief is further accountable for the efficiency of the survey crew and the accuracy of field survey measurements and locations.

Some key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for field data getting back to office.

  • Checks and cleans instruments including EDM, rods and prisms; sharpens cutting tools; checks the general operative condition of assigned vehicle, including gas, oil, and tire pressure; secures vehicle and equipment at the end of the workday, removes and stores instruments and other valuables in the office.

  • Inventories supplies and restocks as needed; identifies/obtains needed supplies required for daily work assignments

  • Transports and mobilizes equipment, to include Instrument, Tripod, Data Collector, and utility belt in a timely and efficient manner

  • Perform simple calculations using plats and plans

  • Performs computations of boundary/traverse relationships including translations and rotations to known monumentations

  • Computes alignments, offsets and intersections as the site conditions dictate

  • Participates in daily briefings/debriefings and ensures all tasks are being addressed in the field

  • Oversees QA/QC

  • Understands and adheres to all safety guidelines and requirements of ccl and the client

  • Adheres to company descriptions, coding, and techniques

  • Tasks team members.

  • Serve as mentor to promote internal professional growth.

Key skills and abilities needed for the position are:

  • Expert knowledge of modern survey devices and modern survey methods.

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems

  • Proficiency with conventional optical and digital total stations

  • Ability to improvise, calculate and respond to changing site conditions and client needs, with limited office support and supervision

  • Possess knowledge, education and/or work experience relating to property and right-of-way resolutions, deed, and plat research.

  • Knowledge and experience of utility, infrastructure and building construction as it is related to stakeout procedures and principles

  • Proficiency with basic survey and mathematical calculations and coordinate geometry.

  • Supervisory skills are required to direct and assist crew in performance of all assignments.

  • Strong ability to delegate work assignments to maximize efficiencies and avoid potential errors and omissions

  • Ability to read blueprints, plats, maps, plans, deeds, legal documents, site plans and field notes

  • Ability to recognize evidence of property lines, witness points and corner monumentation

  • Proficiency with data collector

  • Competence to utilize data collector functions to perform simple calculations

  • Competence and knowledge to perform traverse and bench-loop closures and adjustments as needed and the ability to isolate potential errors using data collector functions

  • Strong aptitude in preparing neat and accurate sketches, field notes and field maps

  • Knowledge of company descriptions, coding, and techniques

  • Ability to perform in an outdoor environment

Education and experience requirements are:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Experience with GPS applications including RTK and static control surveys

  • Experience with overseeing work quality, training and instructing crew members on company standards and methodologies

  • Must possess valid, unrestricted driver's license
