Responsibilities:

Provide on- and off-compound detection of explosive materials.

Perform daily maintenance training (i.e., performance and explosives detection) and maintain training records for assigned detection dogs.

Maintain the day-to-day health and welfare of assigned detection dogs.

Maintain all assigned canine-related equipment (see WPS III IDIQ, Attachment 6, Property and Equipment).

Perform basic canine emergency first-aid as needed.

Qualifications:

For bio approval, the CH-G shall meet the following qualifications:

Applicants must pass the pre-employment Physical Readiness Test (PRT) in order to advance in the application process for the position.

Must be a U.S. citizen.

Must possess a NAPWDA certification or equivalent national/state/provincial military or law enforcement certification as a working dog handler. Will only accept certifications given at the end of a working dog handler course, specifically a NAPWDA certification or equivalent national/state/provincial military or law enforcement certification as a working dog handler. Note that these are not certifications given at the end of an annual certification test, but a certification given at the end of the actual K9 handler course. The certification must list a date range and/or the number of hours.

Must possess a minimum of two (2) years' experience as a military, law enforcement, or WPS program dog handler that has occurred within the last (7) seven years from the date the bio is submitted.

Must possess a minimum of one (1) additional year of security-related experience. Experience may be gained in the employ of any national, state, provincial, local, or commercial entities providing armed guard services that require skills similar to those identified in the guard training course as outlined in WPS III IDIQ, Attachment 2, Training.

Upon bio approval and before beginning work on the contract, the CH-G shall:

Attend and successfully complete the Guard training course, as outlined in WPS III IDIQ, Attachment 2, Training.

Qualify with the Glock-19, M4 or MK18 as specified by the designated TO, M240, and M249, re-qualifying as required in WPS III IDIQ, Attachment 2, Training.

  • Attend and successfully complete training, to be a minimum of three (3) hours in length, addressing the following topics:
  • Recognition of improvised explosive devices (IED) and explosive materials, both in general and relating specifically to the TO area of operations.
  • Safe explosives handling, explosives storage protocols, and explosives transportation protocols, to include protocols for avoiding cross-contamination of explosive training materials.
  • Phase I of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) National Odor Recognition Test (NORT).
  • Phase II of the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) certification test.

Obtain and maintain a Personnel Security Clearance as specified in the TO.

Complete the WPS III Physical Readiness Test, per WPS III IDIQ, Attachment 15, Physical Readiness Test Protocols and Standards, at the sixty-five (65) percent performance level, and maintain that fitness level for the duration of his/her service on the TO.

Possess no impediments to traveling overseas to and within countries that are considered dangerous or unhealthy in general, or to the country or countries assigned in the applicable TO.

Based upon the needs of the program and Project Management discretion, qualified individuals may be required to temporarily fill an alternate position.
