Company OverviewWe have six campuses located throughout the District of Columbia serving Pre K to 8th grade students. We believe that every child can learn and our job is to create an environment of discipline and motivation so that each child succeeds.* Small, with a maximum of 25 students per grade * Liberal arts, where core subjects are taught alongside arts & music * High quality, with a staff of dedicated teachers and administrators * Grounded in integrity, where every student develops strong character * Safe, in an environment where all students are known by teachers and principals * Rooted in neighborhoods Free to DC residents Center City PCS has a rich history of service in our school communities. This year we are embarking on a green themed community service initiative that introduces various types of green service programs and activities to each of our six schools. This initiative will emphasize the importance of using energy efficiently, improving school community grounds, and practicing conservation: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Through integrated lessons, clubs, and service projects, Center City students are preparing to be our next generation’s environmental stewards. Mission Statement The Center City Public Charter Schools (Center City PCS) empower our children for success through a rigorous academic program and strong character education while challenging students to pursue excellence in scholarship, character and service in order to develop the skills necessary to both serve and lead others in the 21st century. Vision & Philosophy Our educational philosophy is rooted in the affirmation of human dignity. We believe that our vocation is to help our students use their gifts wisely—in harmony with others in our schools, in our neighborhoods, and in wider (even global) communities. We believe that our responsibility as educators is to develop the body, mind and spirit of every child because cognitive development is a multi-dimensional process that involves all three of these inextricably connected components. We therefore ask our students to use all three components when gathering, processing and acting on new information—ever mindful of our core values. In this way, we hope to help our students both nurture their gifts and face their challenges with equanimity. Core Values Our mission to pursue excellence in scholarship, character and service requires that students and adults in our communities honor and practice the school’s core values. Nurturing these qualities inside and outside the classroom will enable our students to excel in high school, college and beyond the schoolhouse doors as committed citizens. * Collaboration * Compassion * Curiosity * Integrity * Justice * Knowledge * Peacemaking * Perseverance * Respect * Discipline The Honor Code We believe that as students children are responsible for building and maintaining a positive school community where all are valued and can learn. Each child is called to be responsible for their actions. Through the following statements they commit themselves to living and working in a manner consistent with our core values: * I will arrive at school each day on time and ready to work. * I will treat all with respect and dignity. * I will solve conflicts that arise peacefully. * I will care for and protect our environment. |
